Updated: February 21, 2025 12:03(From Chinese Embassy in Bahamas)

On 19 February 2025, the Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas Her Excellency Ms. Yan Jiarong, accepted an exclusive interview with the largest newspaper in The Bahamas, The Tribune.

Yan elaborated China's position on cooperation with The Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Latin American countries, as well as issues related to the Taiwan question, 5G, and cybersecurity. She firmly rejected the absurd comments of "reducing China's malign influence in The Bahamas and Latin America". The Ambassador stressed that both China and The Bahamas have the right and wisdom to choose their own friends and business partners. China's investment, economic and trade cooperation, and livelihood assistance in The Bahamas and the region is based on the needs of the local people and has improved the well-being of the local people. China does not engage in so-called geopolitical competition and is not interested in competing for influence. The relevant cooperation is featured in mutual benefit and win-win results, imposing no political conditions, and targeting no third parties. Other countries should take China’s partnerships with The Bahamas, with the Caribbean, and with Latin America countries in a more open and inclusive way and should make more practical contributions to the sustainable development of The Bahamas and the region.

The front-page headlines of the two major newspapers in The Bahamas, the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas, and social media reported Ambassador Yan's response.
