Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the Chinese Embassy for the reception to bid farewell to the 18th Chinese medical team and welcome the 19th one. Here, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Prime Minister's Office and Basotho people for your strong support for the medical cooperation between our two countries.

In 1996, governments of China and Lesotho signed the Protocol on the Dispatch of Chinese Medical Teams to Lesotho. The following year, which is 1997,China sent the first medical team to Lesotho. Over the past 28 years, China has sent 19 medical teams to Lesotho, totaling 198 doctors, nurses and supporting staff. Today, we are here to welcome the 19th medical team, continuing the bilateral cooperation in health sector.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Just now, together with all of you, I listened carefully to the briefing by Captain Wang of the 18th team and got deeply touched. What impressed me most was that just in one year’s time, the team treated over 15,000 outpatients and emergency patients. If you multiply this number by 28 years, it is truly astonishing. If you multiply this astonishing number by 58, which is the total number of Chinese medical teams China has sent to all countries including African countries, the result is no longer just a number, it is more than number but a spirit. That is the spirit of Chinese medical teams, "fearlessness of hardship, willingness to sacrifice, helpfulness to patients and boundlessness of love". With the honor of this spirit, the 18th team is about to leave Lesotho. I hope you will continue to be envoys of friendship between China and Lesotho. With the inspiration of this same spirit, the 19th team has arrived in Lesotho. I hope you will make your contribution to the friendship between the peoples of China and Lesotho.

The 28-year glorious journey of Chinese medical teams in Lesotho reminds me of another important journey—the 25-year-old Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Over the past 25 years, China has advanced forward hand in hand with our African brothers and sisters in the spirit of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith. China has helped Africa build 100,000 kilometers of roads, more than 10,000 kilometers of railways, nearly 1,000 bridges and nearly 100 ports, benefiting hundreds of millions of people in Africa, proving to the world that China-Africa cooperation is consistent, practical and reliable. FOCAC has become a symbol of China-Africa solidarity and cooperation, a banner of South-South cooperation, and a model for guiding international cooperation with Africa. Under the guidance of the FOCAC spirit, China and Lesotho have always respected and supported each other. Chinese people have built roads and bridges,cultivated talents, and saved lives in Lesotho, writing numerous heart-touching stories of friendship. China-Lesotho relationship is now at its best in history. China stands ready to work with Lesotho to actively promote the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit, continuously expand the depth and breadth of the China-Lesotho strategic partnership, and set a good example of friendly coexistence and common development for large and small countries, to further boost the well-established credentials of FOCAC.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Standing in the "Kingdom in the Sky" and looking around the African continent, a beautiful picture of all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era comes to my mind. China and Africa share similar past experiences, common development concepts and missions. China is marching towards its second centenary goal, and Africa is moving at an accelerated pace toward the bright prospects envisioned in Agenda 2063. China-Africa cooperation is keeping pace with the times, presenting a broader prospect and a brighter future. For over a decade, China has been actively promoting high-quality Belt and Road Cooperation, implementing the Three Global Initiatives, leading the trend of the times and human progress, promoting world peace and common prosperity. The concept of a community with a shared future for mankind has provided ideological guidance for China-Africa cooperation. China-Africa cooperation vividly interprets China's proposition of all countries jointly building a beautiful homeland and is a vivid practice of a community with a shared future for mankind in Africa.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Unlike some major powers in history that achieved their own modernization through "harvesting-type" expansion, China is firmly committed to being an "empowering major power", promoting world modernization through Chinese modernization. As some African scholars have pointed out, China has always adhered to a people-centered philosophy and insisted that no one should be left behind on the path to modernization. This is not only an update of economic logic but also a step up for civilization as a whole. History and reality have proven that China is a reliable and trustworthy partner of Africa. China and Africa, standing shoulder to shoulder, will surely gather tremendous strength, set off a wave of modernization in the Global South, and open a new chapter in our drive for a community with a shared future for mankind!
