Mr. Fan Xuecheng, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, published an article titled “China Is Committed to Open Economy & Free Trade” in New Vision on April 8. The article outlines the Chinese Government’s position on opposing the United States’ abuse of tariffs, reaffirms China’s unwavering commitment to high-level opening-up and the free trade, and underscores China’s role as a responsible major country.
The article points out that the so-called “reciprocal tariffs” imposed by the United States reflect unilateralism and economic coercion, seriously undermining global supply chains and infringing upon the legitimate development rights of countries around the world. China firmly opposes the weaponization of tariffs and remains committed to openness, inclusiveness, and mutually beneficial cooperation, striving to advance economic globalization in a sound and balanced manner.
The article emphasizes that President Xi Jinping, in his recent meeting with senior representatives of the international business community, emphasized China’s continued efforts to foster a first-class business environment and to promote the building of an open world economy and a community with a shared future for mankind. China also stands ready to work with Uganda to fully implement the outcomes of the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and to further deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
