On April 10, Charge d'Affaires a.i. Ms. He Fen attended the groundbreaking ceremony of redeveloping the Taxiway Charlie of Velana International Airport. Mr. Zhang Xu, Counselor of Chinese Embassy, Mr. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, MACL's CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Li Weidong, Chairman of Beijing Urban Construction Group, and Mr. Luo Wei, General Manager of International Business Department of Beijing Urban Construction Group, were also present. 

Li Weidong and Shareef delivered speeches respectively, reviewing the many landmark projects completed by the Chinese and Maldivian teams, and said that the project will improve the efficiency and safety of the airport operation and provide passengers with a better service experience. The groundbreaking ceremony launched on site marks the entry of the project into the substantive construction stage. 

In the future, with the completion and delivery of the project, Velana International Airport will usher in a comprehensive upgrade, which will not only provide key support for the tourism and economic development of Maldives, but also write a new chapter in the friendship and pragmatic cooperation between China and Maldives.
