On April 20, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait held an open day event to observe this year’s International Chinese Language Day. The event was attended by Ambassador Zhang Jianwei as well as over 200 guests including Chinese language enthusiasts, young students and media personnel from the Kuwaiti side.
Ambassador Zhang provided information on the origin of the International Chinese Language Day. He noted that our joint work to promote language and cultural cooperation, as part of efforts to deliver on the outcomes of the first China-GCC Summit, has achieved many breakthroughs. China is ready to work with the Kuwaiti side to follow the Global Civilization Initiative, implement the important consensus reached between the two heads of state, and keep deepening people-to-people exchanges between the two sides, so as to write a new chapter in upholding the principles of equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness among civilizations.
At the event, guests participated in a range of activities, including learning how to speak Chinese language and write Chinese characters, trying on Hanfu, paper cutting, pitch-pot (touhu), and Chinese tea, to enjoy the splendid Chinese culture. They also visited the “China and the World” exhibition stand to learn about China’s foreign policies especially the work during China’s rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Guests said they enjoyed themselves with such interactive experience.
Ambassador Zhang was also interviewed by media outlets on US’s abuse of tariffs and China-Kuwait relations.
