On April 24, Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan joined the Pat Kenny Show on Ireland’s Newstalk radio to discuss China’s positions on key issues, including China-Ireland economic and trade cooperation and the United States' abuse of tariffs.

Ambassador Zhao highlighted the positive development of China-Ireland and China-EU economic and trade relations, emphasizing that such cooperation benefits the people of both sides and exemplifies the mutually beneficial nature of international trade. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening friendly cooperation with Ireland, Europe, and the broader international community, as part of efforts to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

In response to the ongoing tariff dispute initiated by the United States, Ambassador Zhao stated that China’s position remains consistent and clear: “If you want to fight, we will fight to the end; if you want to talk, the door is open.” Quoting a traditional Chinese saying, he added, “When friends come, we offer fine wine; when jackals come, we are ready with shotguns.” He emphasized that any dialogue must be conducted on the basis of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.
