On April 30, 2025, the handover ceremony of humanitarian aid by the Chinese Embassy in South Sudan to Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State, was held in Juba. H.E. Chinese Ambassador Ma Qiang, Hon. Julius Ajeo Moilinga, Chairperson of the Eastern Equatoria State Parliamentary Caucus of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly of South Sudan(TNLA), Hon. Betty Achan Ogwaro and Hon. Lokang Imoya Lujina Salvatore, Members of TNLA, and Mr. Lawrence Akola Sarafino, Director General for Planning, Training and Coordination of Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of South Sudan, were present and spoke at the ceremony.
H.E. Ambassador Ma Qiang said that the aid to Magwi County is a concrete practice of China’s implementation of the outcomes of the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, as well as a vivid demonstration of jointly building a community with a share future for mankind. China will continue to provide assistance within its capacity to South Sudan in developing its economy and improving people’s livelihood.
Hon. Moilinga and other South Sudan officials said that the aid from Chinese embassy in South Sudanwas a benevolent act of delivering timely aid to those in need and supporting the distressed. The South Sudanese side were grateful beyond words, and would deliver the food and supplies to residents of Magwi County as soon as possible.
