On May 6, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria.

Ambassador Yu noted that Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently held a bilateral meeting with Minister Tuggar on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brazil. This was their second meeting following Foreign Minister Wang Yi' s visit to Nigeria earlier this year. The meeting further advanced the implementation of the consensus reached by the two heads of state last year and sent a strong message of the shared commitment of China and Nigeria to multilateralism and the defense of fairness and justice.

Minister Tuggar spoke highly of the progress in bilateral relations, emphasizing that Nigeria has a strong desire to deepen cooperation with China in the areas of trade, investment, and finance. He also underscored the importance of enhanced communication and coordination in multilateral affairs to jointly safeguard multilateralism and the interests of the Global South, as well as to promote world peace and stability.

Both sides agreed that the United States' abuse of tariffs severely undermines multilateral trade rules and the legitimate rights and interests of other countries. The international community should unite in opposing U.S. unilateral bullying practices.
