On May 8, H.E. Mr. Tang Songgen, Chinese Ambassador to Latvia, was invited to attend the International Chinese Language Day event and the opening ceremony of Latvia’s 22nd “Chinese Bridge” competition at the University of Latvia, where he delivered a speech.

Tang emphasized that Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world, carrying the wisdom, emotions, culture, and memory of the Chinese nation accumulated over thousands of years. It is a shared treasure of all humanity and serves as a bridge for mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and friendship between China and Latvia, as well as between Chinese and European civilizations.

Tang highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. China remains committed to advancing China-EU relations, providing greater stability and certainty to the world. As China continues to expand its opening-up, it has granted unilateral visa-free entry to many European countries, including Latvia, and warmly welcomes Latvian friends to visit China and become envoys of friendship between the two nations.
