On May 12, Chinese Ambassador to PNG H.E. Yang Xiaoguang met with Vice Minister for Defense of PNG and Member of Parliament for East Sepik Province, Hon. Stanley Muts Samban. PNG Officials from the Department of Defense and Defense Attaché Jiang Tuan from the Chinese Embassy attended the meeting.
Ambassador Yang stated that in recent years, the China-PNG Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has been flourished, with practical cooperation in areas such as defense and disaster relief making steady progress. PNG was the first Pacific Island country to join the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Chinese side is willing to deepen cooperation with PNG across various fields, continuously strengthening bilateral ties in trade, defense, and other areas.
Hon. Samban expressed gratitude for the support of China in PNG’s socio-economic development and the maintenance of social stability, stating his willingness to promote further cooperation between the two sides in regional affairs, trade, defense, and other fields to achieve mutual development.
