On May 12, Mr. Pan Qingjiang, Consul General of China in Johannesburg, attended the handover event of educational equipments and furniture donated by the Consulate to Progressive Comprehensive High School in Soweto, Gauteng Province. Over 100 people were present, including Ms. Morakane Mosupyoe, Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Ms Caroline Monageng, the School Principal, and representatives of teachers, students and parents.
In his speech, Consul General Pan said that China and South Africa enjoy traditional friendship featuring “comradery plus brotherhood” and both countries attach great importance to education. The Consulate has carried out a series of activities in support of education and learners under the “Driving Education Culture” project. He encouraged learners to study hard, learn more about China and China-South Africa relations, and become envoys of bilateral friendship. The Speaker and Principal thanked the Consulate General for its generous donation, stating that it was a meaningful investment in the future of South Africa and bilateral relations. They expressed their willingness to actively promote people-to-people exchanges and friendship between South Africa and China.
