On May 15, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with Hon Jafaru Yakubu, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria-China parliamentary relation.

Both sides agreed that since the elevation of China-Nigeria relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, political mutual trust between the two countries has been further consolidated, and practical cooperation across various fields has continued to deepen and yield tangible results. They underscored the need to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders last year and advance the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit, contributing to the building of a closer China-Nigeria and China-Africa community with a shared future and to the improvement of the global governance system.

The two sides also expressed their shared view that the United States' abuse of tariffs has severely undermined the multilateral trading system and destabilized the global economic order. China and Nigeria stand ready to uphold free trade, oppose protectionism, and safeguard international fairness and justice.

Chairman Jafaru reaffirmed Nigeria's firm adherence to the one-China principle and its resolute opposition to any form of "Taiwan Independence" activities.
