On May 22nd, Chinese Embassy in Tonga held the Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the China-aid Sports Technical Assistance Program to Tonga. H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin, Hon. Sinaitakala Tuitahi ( Minister for Internal Affairs), Hon. Kapeli Lanumata ( Minister for Trade and Economic Development) , Mrs. Akanasi Paunga ( CEO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs) and participants of the program attended the event.

Ambassador Liu said that the program stood as a significant achievement in bilateral exchanges and cooperation, China was ready to deepen sports collaboration and support Tonga’s preparations for the 2031 Pacific Games, which would inject new vitality into the friendship between China and Tonga.

Hon. Tuitahi expressed her gratitude for China’s support to Tonga’s sports development. She said that the certificates testified the trainees’ hard work and the friendship between  Tonga and China . She urged the participants to build on what they learned in China, and further improve their competition skills.

Ms. Fonua, representative of the participants, said that the training program was the first journey abroad for many Tongan athletes and coaches, which broadened their horizons and helped them to learn advanced skills. The participants felt from the bottom of their hearts the sincere support from China, even it is far away across mountain and sea. They will engage in harder training and strive for excellence in future competition.
