Consul General Chen Shijie delivered a keynote speech at the Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA). Its Chief Executive John Fraser-Mackenzie and around 100 members participated in the event.
As Chen pointed out in his keynote speech, despite the complex and severe global and domestic landscape, China has remained calm and proactive, implementing a range of policy measures;China’s economy continues to make steady progress, achieving new milestones in high-quality development; foreign trade has remained stable growth in an increasingly open economic environment;China remains the primary engine of global economic growth.
Chen stressed that from January to April this year, New Zealand’s goods exports to China climbed significantly, marking a strong start for bilateral trade. China and New Zealand have highly complementary economies, each with unique strengths. Both sides can expand cooperation in cultivating new growth engines in areas such as the green economy and artificial intelligence. Chen hoped that EMA would continue to serve as a vital bridge, contributing further to win-win cooperation between China and New Zealand.
In a candid and lively manner, Chen also answered questions from the audience on topics such as China’s economic outlook, China-New Zealand economic and trade relations, and China-U.S. tariff issues.
