Ambassador Huang stressed that China and Mauritius share a deep and longstanding friendship. Since establishment of their diplomatic relations, the two sides maintained frequent exchanges with consolidated political trust, fruitful cooperation, and increasingly closer people-to-people contacts. China wishes to join hands with Mauritius so as to better implement outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), with a view to further enhance cooperation in areas including economy and trade, investment, finance, infrastructure, sustainable development, healthcare, education and culture. Taking advantage of existing cooperation mechanisms like the Free Trade Agreement and Currency Swap Agreement, the two sides will also be able to expand access to the Chinese market for high-quality Mauritian products and attract more Chinese investment to Mauritius. China is very much looking forward to Mauritius’ joining in the Belt and Road Initiative so that it could further leverage its unique position as a bridge between Asia and Africa and a gateway for investment into the African continent. People-to-people connectivity plays an important bridging role in strengthening bilateral relations. With a long and glorious history, the Chinese community has been making significant contributions to the development of Mauritius as an integral part of the multi-ethnic society. As the first China Cultural Center set up overseas, the Center in Mauritius will continue to be a platform for various cultural events in the future.
