On May 26, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto.

Ambassador Yu stated that during President Bola Tinubu's state visit to China in September last year, the leaders of both countries agreed to elevate China-Nigeria relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening new prospects for exchanges and cooperation across all fields. China stands ready to deepen collaboration with the Nigerian federal government, state governments such as Sokoto, and other stakeholders to deliver tangible benefits for both nations and our peoples, while injecting greater certainty and stability into the current volatile international and regional landscape.

His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar expressed admiration for the remarkable achievements of Chinese modernization and noted the positive momentum in Nigeria-China relations and practical cooperation across various sectors. He emphasized that Nigeria regards China as a true partner and friend and is committed to enhancing pragmatic collaboration with China to promote shared development and mutual prosperity.
