On May 28, Chinese Ambassador to PNG H.E. Yang Xiaoguang attended the PNG preliminary rounds of 18th Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students held at Butuka Academy in Port Moresby. Chairwoman of Butuka Academy Ms. Lady Ni, Registrar of PNGUoT Dr. Veronica, and Chinese Principle of the Confucius Institute at PNGUoT Mr. Zhang Xian also attended the event.
In his address, Ambassador Yang Xiaoguang said that language is the vessel of civilization and a tool for communication. Chinese language is expanding its global influence, and Chinese education is flourishing in PNG. This year marks the 50th anniversary of PNG’s independence, and next year is the 50th anniversary of China-PNG diplomatic relations. Our bilateral relations stand at a new historical starting point. It is hoped that PNG youth will seize this historic opportunity to learn Chinese, experience the charm of Chinese culture and Chinese modernization, become participants in and builders of our friendly cooperation, and make contributions to China-PNG relations.
On May 23, the PNG preliminary rounds of the 24th Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students was held at PNGUoT in Lae. Deputy Head of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in PNG, Counsellor Chen Jiliang attended the event and delivered a speech.
