On May 29, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Mr Kong Xianhua met with Zhang Hao, the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in the Maldives.

Ambassador Kong welcomed Zhang Hao to the Maldives and congratulated him on his new post. He stated that China has always been a firm supporter of the United Nations’ leading role and multilateralism, and is a positive and stabilizing force in this regard. He expressed his pleasure in seeing more Chinese talents joining the UN and looked forward to enhanced exchanges and cooperation with the UN agencies in the Maldives. He emphasized the shared goal of supporting the Maldives’ independence, sovereignty, and healthy economic and social development, implementing the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and jointly building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Zhang Hao said that the UN highly values China’s international status and influence, and appreciates China’s long-standing strong support for the UN’s endeavors. The UN hopes to explore enhanced cooperation with China in the Maldives to contribute to the country’s long-term stability and sustainable economic development.
