On May 31st, the Third Duanwu “Friendship through Sport” Event 2025 was grandly held in Sydney. His Excellency Ambassador Xiao Qian, Her Excellency the Honorable Governor-General Sam Mostyn, Senator the Honorable Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism, as well as other representatives from the Australian political and business communities attended and delivered remarks.
Ambassador Xiao highlighted in his speech that, Duanwu Festival, an important traditional Chinese festival, and more significantly, an important part of Chinese culture, has created important opportunities for exchanges and mutual understanding among different civilizations. Not long ago, the new Australian government was sworn in. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang congratulated Anthony Albanese on his reelection as Australian Prime Minister. China is willing to take this opportunity to further strengthen sports exchanges and cooperation with Australia, and jointly promote the building of a more mature, stable and fruitful China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.
Ambassador Xiao Qian also briefly exchanged of views with Her Excellency the Honorable Governor-General Sam Mostyn and Senator the Honorable Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism on China-Australia relations as well as other issues of mutual interest. The Australian side appreciated the continuous improvement and development of Australia-China relations and achieved a comprehensive turnaround in recent years, and looked forward to working together with China to continuously advance the bilateral relations in a steady fashion.
