From June 5th to 6th, 2025, Consul General Long Dingbin attended the completion ceremony of the Western Range, a joint venture between Baowu and Rio Tinto, and delivered a speech. Western Australia's Premier Roger Cook, Federal Minister for Resources Madeleine King, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy Gao Feng, Chairman of Baowu Group Hu Wangming, Chairman of Rio Tinto Group Dominic Barton, and over 100 senior executives from both companies and business representatives were present.
Consul General Long congratulated on the successful completion of the Western Range, stating that it demonstrates the strong support from the Chinese and Australian governments, showcases the mutual trust and deep friendship between Baowu and Rio Tinto, and highlights the professionalism and efficiency of the Joint Venture team.The Consulate General of China in Perth stands ready to facilitate the cooperation between Baowu and Rio Tinto, and make efforts to strengthen exchanges and links between China and Western Australia in various fields.
The Western Range is located in Paraburdoo Western Australia with a total investment of 2 billion US dollars and a designed annual production capacity of 25 million tons of iron ore. Construction began in March 2023, and the main production system completed its first batch of iron ore processing in March 2025.
