Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding Meets with Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission Chairperson Majome

On June 9, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding met with Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Fungayi Majome. The Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission and the relevant department heads were also in attendance. 

During the meeting, Ambassador Zhou elaborated on China’s human rights philosophy of "putting people at the center" as well as China’s achievements in promoting social fairness and justice and protecting citizens’ rights. Noting that China attaches great importance to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Zimbabwe in the field of human rights, he also emphasized the need to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese enterprises and citizens in Zimbabwe. Ambassador Zhou reaffirmed the Chinese Embassy’s commitment to encouraging the Chinese enterprises to better meet labour and environmental standards and contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic and social development. 

Chairperson Majome commended China for its achievements in economic and social development and human rights protection. She introduced the mandates and responsibilities of the ZHRC, as well as the opportunities and challenges in protecting, promoting and enforcing human rights in Zimbabwe, and expressed the Commission’s willingness to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side.
