On 10 June 2025 , Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Brisbane Dr Ruan Zongze met with Senator Paul Scarr. Vice Consul Sun Ruoxi was present.

Dr Ruan elaborated comprehensively on the one-China principle, stating that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The one-China principle constitutes the most fundamental political foundation of China-Australia relations. Australia should adhere to its commitments in the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Australia, abide by the one-China principle, and safeguard China-Australia relations. 

Senator Scarr expressed understanding of the Chinese side's position and affirmed his willingness to contribute to the stability of Australia-China relations.
