On June 10, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Guo Haiyan attended and delivered remarks at the celebration marking the 8th anniversary of safe operations of Madaraka Express(SGR).

The event was attended by Mr. Abdi Bare Duale, Chairman of the Kenya Railways Board ,Mr. Philip Mainga, Managing Director of Kenya Railways as well as representatives from Kenya Railways, Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK)，CRBC,Afristar and media organizations-over 200 participants in total.

Ambassador Guo Haiyan remarked that the SGR is a flagship project and an exemplar of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Kenya. As a fruitful result of the close alignment between “Kenya Vision 2030”and the“Belt and Road Initiative”,the railway has maintained safe operations for nearly 3,000 consecutive days, contributing significantly to the economic and social development of regions along its route. It has also embedded green, low-carbon and sustainable development into the very fabric of its operations.Ambassador Guo Haiyan stressed that as the SGR enters its ninth year of safe operation, China stands ready to work closely with Kenya to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and to further deepen  bilateral cooperation in infrastructure development for the mutual benefit of our two peoples.

Mr. Abdi Bare Duale, Chairman of the Kenya Railways Board and Mr. Philip Mainga, Managing Director of Kenya Railways,both expressed  heartfelt appreciation to China for its strong support and significant contribution to the high-quality construction and operation of “Madaraka Express”in Kenya. This jointly built “Road of Friendship” between China and Kenya has significantly enhanced Kenya’s transport connectivity and served as a catalyst for the country’s socio-economic development.They all expressed anticipation to further deepen practical cooperation in infrastructure development.
