On 21 June, 2025, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Brisbane Dr Ruan Zongze was invited to attend and deliver a speech at the unveiling ceremony of the Chinese Archaeological Temple Site in the Shire of Croydon, Queensland. Croydon Mayor Trevor Pickering, Councillor Bin Chew, and about one hundred guests from across Queensland were present.
Dr Ruan said that over a century ago, Chinese immigrants made significant contributions to the local community. Thank Croydon Shire Council for the long-standing efforts to preserve and restore the site of the Chinese Temple, thereby honoring the contributions of the Chinese community. The Chinese Consulate-General actively supports people-to-people exchanges and cultural cooperation between China and Australia and is willing to work with friends from all sectors in Australia to promote steady development of bilateral relations.
Mayor Pickering and other guests recalled the hardships and perseverance of early Chinese settlers and expressed continued support for the preservation and promotion of Chinese culture.
The Chinese Temple was originally built in 1904. Since 2021, the Croydon Shire Council has developed interpretive facilities on the original site and recently opened it to visitors.
