Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan Attends the Commemoration of International Day of Women in Diplomacy

On June 24, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and the United Nations Office at Nairobi jointly held the Commemoration of International Day of Women in Diplomacy with the theme of the journey towards Beijing+30. Nearly 100 female guests, including H.E. Guo Haiyan, Chinese Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN-Habitat, H.E. Zainab Hawa Bangura, Director-General of the UN Office at Nairobi, H.E. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, female diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya and UN agencies, female ambassadors to Kenya from various countries and female Kenyan college students attended.

Ambassador Guo reaffirmed that The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which were adopted by the Beijing World Conference on Women 30 years ago, are always regarded as a milestone in our journey to promote gender equality, improve the status of women and advance women empowerment. To revitalize the spirit of the Beijing Declaration has become a wide consensus for all parties. China will co-host the Global Summit of Women with UN Women later this year.

Mrs. Bangura and other guests commended China’s leadership in driving progress in the field of protection of women’s rights and interests within the international community. They urged all parties to actively turn the spirit of the Beijing Declaration into practice.
