On July 2, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with Hon. Simisola Fajemirokun Ajayi, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), at the latter's request.
Hon. Simisola Fajemirokun Ajayi expressed gratitude for China's strong support for the successful hosting of WAES 2025. She noted that the Secretariat is committed to translating the region’s development potential into tangible outcomes, and looks forward to learning more from China's development experience, deepening Nigeria-China cooperation, and injecting more impetus into the friendly relations between the two sides.
Ambassador Yu congratulated Nigeria on the successful hosting of WAES 2025, stating that the summit has boosted regional economic integration and elevated Nigeria's international status. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership has transcended the bilateral scope and is increasingly gaining global significance.
Ambassador Yu emphasized that in the congratulatory message to the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators for the Implementation of the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, President Xi Jinping announced that China will extend zero-tariff treatment for 100% tariff lines to all 53 African countries with diplomatic relations. The Embassy stands ready to work closely with the Secretariat to actively implement the above-mentioned measures and the China-Africa ‘Ten Partnership Actions ’, and jointly promote the development and prosperity of the two countries.
