On 8th July, H.E. Wang Yu, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, met with H.E. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), Minister of Internal Security of Somalia. The two sides jointly announced the launch of the second batch of projects under the framework of "Action for a Mine-free Africa" in Somalia.

Ambassador Wang, recalling President Xi Jinping’s announcement of "Action for a Mine-free Africa" during his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) last September, said that Somalia was one of the first group of beneficiary countries, and over the past year, the "Action" has played a vital role in safeguarding the lives and prosperity of the Somali people. This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Somalia and China. In order to help Somalia enhance its capacity of eliminating mine threat, during the recent Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of Follow-up Actions of FOCAC, China offered to continue the project in its second batch in Somalia.

Minister Fartaag extended sincere gratitude for China's significant initiative and expressed Somalia's commitment to working closely with China to implement the second batch of the projects under the "Action" framework so as to contribute more cooperation outcomes to Somalia-China friendship.
