On July 10, Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan Met with John Lahart TD, Cathaoirleach of Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade and Convenor of Ireland-China Parliamentary friendship Group.
Ambassador Zhao extended his warm congratulations to Deputy Lahart on his appointment as Cathaoirleach of Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade and Convenor of Ireland-China Parliamentary friendship Group. He noted that in recent years, China–Ireland relations have enjoyed healthy and stable development, marked by frequent high-level exchanges between the two governments and parliaments, as well as fruitful cooperation in the fields of economy and trade.
Ambassador Zhao emphasized that parliamentary exchanges between the National People’s Congress of China and the Houses of the Oireachtas constitute an important pillar of bilateral relations. He expressed the hope that the newly formed Ireland-China Parliamentary Friendship Group will continue to play an active and constructive role in promoting mutual understanding and deepening the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
Deputy Lahart expressed Ireland’s strong commitment to developing relations with China and acknowledged China’s remarkable achievements in development, as well as its significant role in international affairs. He noted the great potential for practical cooperation between the two countries in areas such as economy, trade, science and technology, and industry, and looked forward to further progress in bilateral relations.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
