Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin Attends the Welcome and Farewell Ceremony for Chinese Medical Teams in Tonga

On 15 July, 2025, the Welcome and Farewell Ceremony for Chinese Medical Teams in Tonga was held by the Ministry of Health of Tonga. H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Aisake Eke, Minister for Health Hon. Dr. ‘Ana ‘Akau’ola,doctors from both the fifth and sixth Chinese Medical Teams, staff of the Ministry of Health and Vaiola Hospital were present.

Ambassador Liu Weimin said that over the past year, the fifth Chinese Medical Team demonstrated their professionalism and dedication through tirelessly travelling across the mainland and outer islands of Tonga, operating Tonga’s first gynecological laparoscopic surgery, courageously responding to the dengue fever, facilitating the referral partnership between the Ministry of Health and Qilu Hospital in Shandong province, and providing high-quality medical services. He believed the new team would build on the foundation to achieve even more.

Hon. Aisake Eke highly praised the contribution of the Chinese Medical Team in addressing Tonga’s health challenges, regarding it as a vivid example of the enduring friendship and strong partnership between Tonga and China.

Hon. Dr. ‘Ana ‘Akau’ola expressed heartfelt gratitude to the fifth Chinese Medical Team and extended a warm welcome to the sixth Chinese Medical Team in Tonga.

They also presented hospital badges to the new team, and certificates of appreciation to the old one.
