On July 16, the Chinese Embassy in Dominica held an Open Day event, welcoming around 100 local primary school students and teachers, accompanied by Hon. Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, wife of Prime Minister and Minister of Housing, Land & Urban Development. Chinese Ambassador H.E. Chu Maoming along with all embassy diplomats, teachers from the Confucius Classroom, and representatives of the Chinese community, joined the event.

In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Chu briefly introduced China’s rich historical heritage and achievements in modernization. He encouraged the young guests to actively explore Chinese culture and carry forward the friendship between China and Dominica. Minister Melissa Poponne-Skerrit expressed her appreciation to the Embassy for organizing the event, praised the fruitful outcomes of Dominica-China cooperation and exchanges, and affirmed her support for promoting deeper understanding and cultural integration between the two peoples.

The event featured a diverse and engaging program. Children eagerly participated in a Chinese culture quiz, showcasing their intelligence and enthusiasm. They were thrilled by the dazzling face-changing performance and Chinese Kung Fu demonstration by martial arts champion Mr. Gao Sen, even lining up to “apprentice” with him and learn a few Shaolin Kung Fu. Later, the children took part in various cultural activities including calligraphy, paper cutting, shuttlecock kicking, and dumpling making, enjoying a memorable and joyful experience.
