On July 25, Ambassador Yu Dunhai of China to Nigeria met with Mr. Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace,  Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Voice of Nigeria (VON). Counsellor Yang Jianxing and members of VON’s core management team were present.

Ambassador Yu stated that since the elevation of China-Nigeria relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership by the two heads of state last year, practical cooperation between the two countries across various fields has yielded fruitful results, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges have become more extensive and in-depth. China looks forward to working with Nigeria to implement the consensus of the two heads of state, jointly advance the Global Civilization Initiative, and strengthen cooperation in areas such as Chinese language teaching, cultural exchanges, and news media, to better promote mutual learning between civilizations and people-to-people bonds between China and Nigeria.

Mr. Ndace noted that both Nigeria and China are major developing countries playing important roles on the world stage. He stated that VON currently broadcasts in eight languages and hopes that Chinese will be added as the ninth language soon. Nigeria stands ready to work with China to better convey the stories of Nigeria-China and Africa-China friendship to Nigeria, Africa, and the world, using more positive narratives to provide a guarantee for the mutually beneficial cooperation between Nigeria and China.
