On August 7, the leading Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið carried an article by Ambassador He Rulong entitled “China Stands for Free Trade and Fair Trade”, illustrating China’s firm support for economic globalization and its commitment to developing China-Europe relations.

The article pointed out that in July, European Commission President von der Leyen visited both Iceland and China, with trade issues being a key topic during both trips. The accusation by EU officials that China has overcapacity reflects a misunderstanding of economic globalization. In essence, China-EU trade is mutually beneficial and a win-win cooperation. China welcomes foreign enterprises and investment to its market and is committed to providing a fair and secure environment for all parties.

According to the article, this year celebrates the 50th anniversary marking the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and EU. As global economic heavyweights, China-EU relationship matters globally. China hopes that the EU can work with China in the same direction and view China-EU relations from a comprehensive, dialectical and developmental perspective. China, Iceland and the EU can jointly promote a freer and fairer global trade system and provide more stability and certainty to the wider world.
