On August 14, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia hosted the Movie Reception to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The documentary The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru was showed. Yin Chengwu, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, attended. Hon. Dr. Augustin Larmie, Acting Minister of Ministry of Defense, Hon. Momo T. Cyrus, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security, Defense, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. John-Charuk S. Siafa, Mayor of Monrovia attended the event.
Ambassador Yin stated that China and Liberia were allies in the World Anti-Fascist War, both China and Liberia contributed to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru denounces the crimes of Japanese fascism. All countries should bear history in mind, honor all those who laid down their lives, cherish peace and open up the future, work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Hon. Dr. Augustin Larmie thanked China for its long-term support for Liberia's military development, praised China's contribution to the World Anti-Fascist War, and stated that the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was not only the victory of the Chinese people, but also the victory of the world's people, including Liberians.
