On August 20, 2025, H.E. Ambassador Hou Yue gave an interview to Klassekampen, the third-largest print media outlet in Norway.

During the interview, Ambassador Hou stated that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic ties. China-Europe relations benefit both sides and contribute positively to the world. Over the years, they have become one of the most influential bilateral relationships globally. China and Europe are partners, not rivals; they present opportunities to each other, not threats. The two sides share far more consensus than differences. Amid a changing and complex international landscape, their common interests have expanded rather than diminished. China consistently supports the strategic autonomy of the EU, which is a major pole in a multipolar world. China hopes that Europe will play a even more significant role in global affairs and is pleased to see a strong, prosperous, and stable Europe.

Ambassador Hou also elaborated on China’s position on the Ukraine crisis, China-EU trade frictions and other issues. On August 23, Klassekampen featured a front-page report on the interview under the title "Europe Should Not Be a Vassal".
