On August 25, 2025, the seminar themed “Remembering History and Creating a Better Future” was held at the University of Sulaimani to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The seminar was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Iraq, the Chinese Consulate General in Erbil, and the Chinese Studies Center at the University of Sulaimani, with the support of the Global Civilization Initiative Research Center and the Chinese Companies Chamber of Commerce in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
The event brought together over 600 participants, including H.E. Cui Wei, Chinese Ambassador to Iraq; Mr. Liu Jun, Chinese Consul General in Erbil; H.E. Mustafa Qadir, Vice President of the KRI; H.E. Haval Abubakir, Governor of Sulaimani; and Dr. Kosar Mohammed Ali, President of the University of Sulaimani.
In his keynote speech, Ambassador Cui highlighted China’s role as the main battlefield in the East during WWII and called for drawing lessons from history, safeguarding peace, and building a shared future for humanity.
The seminar featured two panel discussions where scholars and business leaders from China and the KRI exchanged views on topics such as the history of the War of Resistance and global WWII perspectives, the achievements of Chinese modernization, and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
