On August 26th, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Iraq H.E. Cui Wei visited Halabja Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and met with Acting Governor Ms. Nuxsha Nasih. The two sides exchanged views on advancing practical cooperation. Consul General Mr. Liu Jun in Erbil also attended the meeting.

Ambassador Cui extended congratulations on Halabja’s official designation as Iraq’s 19th governorate and on Ms. Nuxsha becoming the first female governor in the country’s history. He expressed best wishes for the continued development and progress of the governorate at this new historical starting point.
Ms. Nuxsha thanked China for its longstanding support for the development of the KRI, noting that Halabja is rich in agricultural and tourism resources, and that various sectors are witnessing robust growth. She stated that the governorate values learning from China’s development experience and hopes Chinese enterprises can contribute to Halabja’s future development.
Ambassador Cui and his delegation also visited the Halabja Monument, which commemorates the victims of the chemical attack.
