Chinese Embassy in Tonga Holds Film Screening to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War

On August 30th, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga held a film screening to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The documentary The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru was shown at the event, which was attended by Ambassador Liu Weimin, descendants of Tongan veterans who took part in World War II, members of Tongan non-governmental organizations, and representatives of Chinese community.

Ambassador Liu stated that the documentary exposes the cruelty of Japanese invaders and the sufferings endured by victims, reflects the determination and courage of the Chinese people and people around the world in jointly resisting aggression and defending peace and justice, and demonstrates the brilliance of humanity among the Chinese people in the darkest hours. He emphasized that China and Tonga should take history as a mirror, cherish peace, and work together to facilitate a better future.

The audience was deeply moved by the documentary, which they said helped them better understand the value of peace. They expressed the willingness to foster a right view of the World War II history to jointly safeguard peace.
