On August 27, a special exhibition of books and literature marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations was launched in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library at the UN Headquarters. On behalf of the Chinese side, Ambassador Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, presented Xi Jinping: The Governance of China and A New History of World War II to the United Nations. Consul General of China in New York Chen Li, along with officials from the UN Secretariat, representatives of member states, and guests from various sectors, attended the event.
In his remarks, Ambassador Fu said that the rich collection of books and historical materials will help the international community better preserve the true historical record, and learn more about today's China and its visions and proposals.. He emphasized the importance to uphold a correct historical view of World War II, practice true multilateralism, improve global governance, and act as guardians of historical truth, practitioners of peace and development, and contributors to global governance.
Wang Lan, Director-General of the Library of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Thanos Giannakopoulos, Chief Librarian of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, noted that the entry of such valuable books into the United Nations allows the international community and future generations to better understand China's history and visions, and called for preserving the spiritual legacy and striving unremittingly for a brighter future.
The exhibition is divided into three sections: the Eastern Theater of the Anti-Fascist War, China and the United Nations, and China in the New Era. Featuring 400 books and 40 issues of newspapers, the exhibition systematically showcases the history of China's cooperation with the UN and the remarkable achievements of Chinese modernization. For the first time, multilingual editions of all five volumes of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China are displayed at the United Nations.
All these books will be added to the collection of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library. Established in 1946, it is known as a unique and highly specialized international library, providing information services to the UN Secretariat, member states, and the global public.
