Good Morning, Your Excellencies,
Chief Librarian Thanos Giannakopoulos, Director-General Wang Lan, Consul General Chen Li,
Colleagues and Dear Friends,
It is a great honor for me to join you at today's exhibition, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations.
Let me begin by expressing my sincere appreciation to our organizer, the Library of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, for bringing together such a rich and meaningful collection.
Here, we are surrounded by 400 volumes of books. They vividly recount the heroic resistance of the Chinese people during the World Anti-Fascist War. They tell the story of China's cooperation with the United Nations. And they present President Xi Jinping's visions for China's development and global governance in the new era.
All these books will be donated to the UN Dag Hammarskjöld Library. I am confident that the donation will help the international community better preserve the true historical record, and learn more about today's China and its visions and proposals.
Dear Friends,
Books connect humanity's past and future. When collected and curated, they can become something greater—a beacon of truth, a gateway to knowledge, and a keeper of cultural heritage. In other words, they become a library.
Here, in the library of the United Nations, we gather to honor history and look toward the future. This setting, I believe, makes today's occasion all the more special and meaningful.
To honor history, we must first and foremost defend the true historical record.
A correct understanding of World War II is the foundation of the peace we enjoy today. Historical documents in libraries serve as the best reminder of the painful lessons we humanity have learned.
Eighty years ago, the Chinese people, at an immense sacrifice of over 35 million casualties, made a decisive contribution to the global victory over fascism.
Any attempt to distort history or glorify aggression is an affront to human conscience and a challenge to the post-war international order. China supports more exchanges and sharing among libraries worldwide, so that we can together resist disinformation and uphold historical truth.
The best way to honor history is to translate its lessons into actions, working tirelessly for peace and development. And China remains a firm supporter of this noble cause.
China was the first country to sign the UN Charter. We have always been advocating for the peaceful and political settlement of disputes, taking the lead in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, promoting dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations, and creating new opportunities for the world through our own development.
At this new historical juncture, China will remain steadfast in safeguarding the authority and status of the United Nations. We will continue to practice true multilateralism, stay committed to the noble cause of peace and development, and work with all countries to build a community with a shared future for humankind.
Looking toward the future, we still face a challenging journey. Peace and development are never easily secured. They need the shared commitment and coordinated actions from all of us.
Bearing in mind the common security and shared progress of humanity, President Xi Jinping has put forward the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. These visionary proposals have greatly galvanized our collective efforts to build a more just and equitable global governance system.
Today's exhibition features selected works of President Xi Jinping on state governance, poverty alleviation, human rights, and a community with a shared future. We believe these insights and solutions from China will help the world explore new paths toward modernization, and inject fresh momentum into improving global governance.
Dear Friends,
Only by remembering history, can we create a better future. China will continue to work with all partners, under the banner of multilateralism with the UN at its core, to build a brighter future for all.
Finally, I wish today's event every success.
Thank you.
