On September 3, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga hosted a symposium with the local Chinese community to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Ambassador Liu Weimin attended and delivered remarks. Representatives of the Chinese community, including compatriots from Taiwan, as well as representatives of Chinese enterprises and institutions in Tonga, participated in the event.
Following the live broadcast of the gathering, participants engaged in discussions. Ambassador Liu recalled the great historical achievements of the Chinese people, who, under the banner of the Chinese united front against Japanese aggression, made tremendous sacrifices to support the main eastern battlefield. He stressed that Taiwan's restoration to China is a victorious outcome of WWII and an integral part of the postwar international order. Ambassador Liu pointed out that the military parade demonstrated China’s firm commitment to the path of peaceful development and its ability to safeguard world peace. He encouraged Chinese institutions and compatriots in Tonga to carry forward the great spirit of the War of Resistance, resolutely oppose 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities, contribute to building a strong China and advancing national rejuvenation, and promote the in-depth development of China-Tonga relations.
The representatives noted that the victory of the War had changed the destiny of the Chinese nation, and that the motherland today is vastly transformed. They pledged to remain united, give full play to their role as a bridge, and make active contributions to national development, the great cause of national reunification, and the friendship between China and Tonga.
