On September 9, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with H.E. Adebayo Adelabu, Nigerian Minister of Power.

Ambassador Yu stated that since President Tinubu’s state visit to China last year, cooperation between China and Nigeria in various fields has maintained strong momentum. Electricity is the lifeblood of national economic development, and China attaches great importance to cooperation with Nigeria in the power sector. Under the guidance of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, China is willing to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as power infrastructure construction, equipment manufacturing, and talent training, to help Nigeria improve its power supply capacity, bring tangible benefits to the Nigerian people, and promote continued fruitful outcomes in bilateral relations.

Minister Adelabu stated that China is an important partner of Nigeria. A number of bilateral power cooperation projects, including the Zungeru Hydropower Station, have provided significant support for Nigeria’s economic and social development. Nigeria is willing to continue deepening and expanding practical cooperation with China in the power sector and other areas, promote the implementation of more cooperative projects, and truly bring benefits to the people of both countries.
