On September 30, the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco and the government of San Francisco jointly hosted a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Consul General Zhang Jianmin and his wife Zheng Xin, together with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and Chief of Protocol Penny Coulter, raised China’s National Flag at the City Hall. More than 40 representatives from across the Bay Area attended, including San Francisco Supervisors Connie Chan and Chyanne Chen, Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu, and Sonoma Councilmember Jack Ding.

Consul General Zhang emphasized that China is committed to advancing high-quality development and high-standard opening-up. He noted that these efforts not only improve the well-being of the Chinese people but also contribute new momentum to global peace and development. Zhang stressed that the Consulate General is ready to work in partnership with people from all walks of life in San Francisco to build more bridges of friendship and pave more paths of cooperation, with the goal of fostering stable, healthy, and sustainable China-US relations.

Mayor Lurie reflected on San Francisco’s long history of engagement with China and expressed his strong commitment to further cooperation. He also proclaimed October 1, 2025, as “China-US Friendship and Heritage Day” in San Francisco.

In the evening, San Francisco City Hall will be illuminated in celebration of China’s National Day, further underscoring the spirit of friendship and exchange.
