On October 2, 2025, the new Chinese Ambassador to Malta, Zhang Zuo, presented the copy of his Letter of Credence Hon. Dr. Ian Borg, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta.
H.E. Ambassador Zhang noted that it is a great honor to be accredited by H.E. President Xi Jinping as the Chinese Ambassador to Malta. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-Malta relations have maintained a strong momentum of development. China is ready to work together with Malta to implement the important consensus reached between the two heads of state, support each other in safeguarding core interests and major concerns, strengthen political mutual trust, deepen alignment of development strategies, enhance exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and reinforce coordination and cooperation in international affairs to inject new vitality into the bilateral relations.
Hon. Dr. Ian Borg welcomed H.E. Ambassador Zhang's assumption of office, stating that Malta attaches great importance to developing relations with China, reaffirms Malta's longstanding position on the one-China policy, and is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields to promote the further growth of bilateral relations. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism will support and facilitate H.E. Ambassador Zhang in performing his duties.
H.E. Ambassador Zhang Zuo arrived in Malta to assume his post on September 25, 2025.
