Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua Meets with MATATO CEO Mr.Mohamed Bassam Adam

On October 19, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Mr. Kong Xianhua met with Mr.Mohamed Bassam Adam, Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO). The two sides held in-depth discussions on strengthening tourism cooperation and enhancing safety measures and overall experience for Chinese tourists in the Maldives.

Ambassador Kong stated that tourism serves as a key pillar of the Maldivian economy, with China being the largest source of tourists to the Maldives. He emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of tourists, improving the travel experience, safeguarding visitors' rights and interests, and fostering a safer and more comfortable travel environment are shared responsibilities of both sides. The Ambassador encouraged the Maldivian tourism sector to deepen its research and expand investment in the Chinese market, attracting more Chinese visitors through a wider array of activities and safer, more enjoyable travel experiences—thereby generating further opportunities for the Maldives’ economic and social development.

Mr. Adam emphasized that the Maldivian side places high importance on the experience of Chinese tourists and expressed MATATO’s commitment to working with Chinese Embassy to continuously enhance the quality of tourism services. He reiterated their dedication to creating a more convenient, secure, and favorable environment for Chinese visitors traveling to the Maldives.
