On November 11, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime held a high-level event at the Vienna International Centre to mark the 25th anniversary of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the second International Day for the Prevention of and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime. Executive Director of UNODC, Ms. Ghada Waly, Austrian President, H.E. Mr. Alexander Van der Bellen, and Italian President, H.E. Mr. Sergio Mattarella, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, attended the substantive segment. Zheng Wei, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Foreign Related Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice of China, delivered a statement during the general debate.

Ambassador Li stated that China has always been deeply committed to implementing the Convention in a comprehensive and faithful way, advancing the rule of law in China and the Peaceful China Initiative. Today China is recognized as one of the safest countries in the world. China is willing to work with all parties to actively implement President Xi Jinping’s Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Global Governance Initiative, contributing to a safer, fairer, and more just global community with a shared future for humanity.
