Chinese Mission to the African Union Co-hosts The International Seminar Themed “Work Together to Build Common Security: China and Africa in Action”

On December 4, the Mission of China to the AU and UNECA, the African Union, the United Nations Office to the AU (UNOAU), and the UNHCR Representation to the AU and UNECA, jointly hosted a high-level international seminar themed “Work Together to Build Common Security: China and Africa in Action” at the AU headquarters. Ms. Wang Lixin, Director-General of the Department of Security Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Amb. Jiang Feng, Head of Mission of China to the AU and UNECA, Amb. Moussa Mohamed Omar, Deputy Chief of Staff of Cabinet office of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Amb. Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the AU and Head of the UNOAU, Ms. Lisa Fergusson-Nicol, Senior Liasion Adviser of the UNHCR to the AU and UNECA, Ambassadors from African countries, and around 120 representatives from the AU, UN, think tanks and media attended the seminar.

Amb. Jiang stated that the Global Security Initiative (GSI) aligns with the aspirations of African countries to resolve conflicts independently and oppose external interference. China is willing to work with African countries to promote the implementation of the GSI in Africa and jointly build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.

The participants highly praised the Global Security Initiative, and appreciated that its core concepts are highly consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the African position.
