On 22nd December, Ambassador Liu Weimin met with Hon. Fane Fituafe, the newly elected People’s Representative for Tongatapu 6 Constituency. The two sides engaged in friendly discussions on China-Tonga relations, the Taiwan question, and community livelihoods.

Ambassador Liu congratulated Hon. Fane Fituafe on her election and noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 27 years ago, China-Tonga relations have maintained sound and steady development. Not long ago, His Majesty King Tupou VI successfully concluded his state visit to China, which injected new impetus into the growth of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. China stands ready to work with Tonga to implement the outcomes of the King’s state visit to China, supporting Tongan communities in improving people’s well-being, and further enrich the substance of China-Tonga relations. He also elaborated on the historical context of the Taiwan question and appreciated Tonga’s firm adherence to the one-China Principle
Hon. Fane Fituafe expressed gratitude for China’s long-term support and assistance to Tonga. As a newly elected People’s Representative, she reaffirmed her firm commitment to the one-China principle and looked forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with China in such areas as education, agriculture, women and youth empowerment.
