On December 29, 2025, H.E. Zhang Zuo, Chinese Ambassador to Malta, met with H.E. John Busuttil, Maltese Ambassador to China.

Ambassador Zhang Zuo stated that China and Malta are old and good friends whose friendship has stood the test of time. In recent years, China-Malta relations have maintained high-level development, yielding fruitful results in pragmatic cooperation across fields such as economy, trade, culture, and tourism, which have brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. China stands ready to work with Malta to jointly uphold multilateralism and free trade. He expressed his expectation for Ambassador Busuttil to continue contributing to China-Malta friendship and the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations.

Ambassador John Busuttil spoke highly of Malta-China relations, noting that Malta always regards developing relations with China as a priority. As the Maltese Ambassador to China, he expressed his willingness to work together with Ambassador Zhang to push for greater development of bilateral ties.
