On January 15, 2026, H.E. Mr. Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Professor Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The two sides exchanged views on further deepening cooperation.

Ambassador Jia Guide stated that multilateralism is under challenges, leading to growing deficits in global climate and meteorological governance. The Global Governance Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, firmly supporting multilateralism and safeguarding the U.N.-centered international system, holds significant guidance for improving global climate and meteorological governance. China stands ready to further strengthen communication and coordination with the WMO, and to continuously deepen practical cooperation, making contributions to addressing global climate change challenges.
Secretary-General Saulo welcomed Ambassador Jia’s assumption of office and spoke highly of the cooperation progress between China and the WMO. She commended China’s continuous efforts in strengthening technological innovation and data sharing, which greatly help global south countries in capacity building. The WMO looks forward to further expanding and deepening practical cooperation with China, and achieving more fruitful results.
