On January 22, 2026, H.E. Ms Hou Yue, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Norway, was invited to attend Chinese New Year Reception for the Year of the Horse organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London and the Norway-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Fiona Chau, Director General of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, Ms. Cathrine G. Jahnsen, Executive Secretary of Norway-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, representatives from Norwegian government departments, and business communities attended the event.

Ambassador Hou said that China-Norway relations maintained strong momentum, delivering fruitful results in economic and trade cooperation, with bilateral trade reaching 17.4 billion US dollars in 2025. As an international financial, shipping and trading hub, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, leveraging its unique advantage of enjoying the backing of the motherland and being open to the world, is increasingly becoming an important platform for Norwegian enterprises to participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The 15th Five-Year Plan mapped out the blueprint for China's economic and social development for the next 5 years, injecting new momentum into China-Norway exchanges and cooperation across various fields. It is hoped that members of the Norwegian business community will seize the opportunities, actively promote the development of China-Norway economic and trade relations, deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
